STATEMENT

Through the process of painting I interpret the world around me and represent my thoughts and feelings about the subjects. I’m intrigued by still lifes and figurative compositions that occur naturally. I find interest in the way that people cluster together or disperse, the way that items are set down without thought, or the way that someone arranges their trinkets or decor with intention in their home. I utilize photography to capture these moments, and through painting the images I explore what they mean to me. I wield color, line, and composition as tools. With these tools, I reinterpret the world around me, environments I find myself in, and the places I choose to go. My conclusions are derived not from premonitions that inspire my work or from reflection after it’s completed, but they are found through the process of painting.
